One-day mindfulness intensive course in Cairns for GPs
Who is this for?
COURSE POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE
Self care and mindfulness in medicine is a hot topic in Queensland right now. The challenge is to integrate evidenced based mindfulness practices into every day routines so that rather than mindfulness being simply a stress management tool, to alleviate the stresses of modern living, it is is integrated into many aspects of work and home life.
This course is aimed at GPs. This is because GPs sometimes face unique challenges to adopting and embedding self-care and mindfulness practices.
In a safe nurturing environment we share the groups knowledge about which self-care techniques have worked for them in the past.
This workshop is about exploring some of the evidence base underpinning mindfulness and then working together as a group to discover which practices are of most value and can be most easily embedded at work, home and in the space between work and home.
About the course
The one-day intensive mindfulness course includes the following elements:
- What is the definition of mindfulness? Is there a commonly understood framework in psychology for mindfulness?
- Exploration of gne Breathe Australia framework for cultivating mindfulness called PEARLS. This roadmap enables participants to cultivate their attention in a way that helps them embed their own self care program which works for them
- Practical techniques to enable greater focus and cut off between tasks and between work and home
- Self care techniques including breath work exercises, tapping and other techniques
- Practice of body scanning techniques and how to incorporate them into workplace routines and at home
Each participant will be given a mindfulness workbook with notes and exercises to follow. Our approach is to take mindfulness out of the yoga studio and provide tools for embedding techniques at work and home.
